What do reflect our streets? – by Saro Fernandez
Few days ago I took my camera and took a walk through the streets of my city, stopping to clear my mind and find some inspiration.
After few blocks, I realized that the city is no longer a reflection of the society that inhabits it, but a reflection of consumerism, where everyday society loses ground against communication companies witch consists of selling, building and overthrow.
Some small groups in a desperate act to convey his anguish, take spaces where playing music, riding a theatrical show or recite poems is considered an act of vandalism. Because it goes against “corporate culture” it is being introduced successfully in our lives taking up everything in its path.
Think about your city, how many small restaurants have disappeared to make way for fast-food chains? How many billboards’re on your daily commute? How many green spaces are lost to benefiting corporations?
It is our responsibility to take back the streets, to be the reflection of those who live and travel all day and do not reflect corporate interests. Not talking about an utopia, I share you a picture I take of a building that allowed collective (VRS crew) intervention.
