Many people have interpreted his work as a commentary on the transformation of sexual morality and the struggle for creativity and sexual freedom in a conservative and strictly controlled society.

Well known for his provocative images and poetry. Moreover, the work of Ren Hang has been exhibited in galleries around the world. He has also work as advertising photographer for leading fashion brands and magazines like Gucci and GQ in China.

Hang began in photography when he was in college, in Beijing. Initially he started taking pictures of his friends for pure boredom and fun. Some time after and thanks to his controversial photographs, he began to gain a great fame.

In his photographs, we can find young Chinese naked in suggestive and almost sculptural poses. Most of the time even with hight sexual content.

He convinced his friends and close people to pose in many of these photographs, as he always said that he did not like to photograph strangers, he used to feel really nervous and anxious. He even made his mother participate in the most controversial serie, for made him able to realized it.
